Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is its flamingos and the over 400 species of birds found here. The sight of the millions of flamingos is quite spectacular. From a distance the lake appears ringed in pink.

Lake Nakuru has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species- particularly the Rothschild giraffe and the black and white rhino. lion, waterbuck, buffalo and baboons are all resident here.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara, Kenya

Drive to Maasai Mara via the Great Rift Valley to arrive at Maasai Mara in time for lunch at Keekorok, Serena lodge. You will have a full afternoon game drive till dusk.

    Day 4-5: Maasai Mara, Kenya

You will have 2 days exploring the Maasai Mara National Park in search of the big five.

An optional balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost.

Overnight stay at Mara Sarova Lodge, Keekorok Lodge or similar facility.

The Maasai Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lion, rhino, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, warthog, hyena, jackal, wild dog, leopard, many kinds of antelope and elephant.

It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place because of the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra crossing the Mara River from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, followed on their heels by the predators of the savanna – lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures.

Day 6: Maasai Mara – Musoma (Lukuba Island), Kenya

Early morning departure to Tanzania via Isebania border Musoma – through Sirari border point. Transfer to Tembo Beach Hotel where you will board your boat to Lukuba Island and have your afternoon spent relaxing, fishing, hiking on the sunset rocks.

Lukuba Lodge is situated on Lukuba Island, about 13 kilometers off the shore of Lake Victoria in the Musoma District. The lodge is ideally situated in the eastern part of Lake Victoria and is an easy destination, just seventy five kilometers from the western Serengeti gate at Ndabaka. It can also be incorporated as a stopover when arriving from the Maasai Mara into Tanzania.

Day 7: Lukuba – Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

You will transfer by boat to the shore of Lake Victoria where you will link up with your guide and proceed to Serengeti National park via the Ndabaka Gate. Lunch at Serengeti Serena Lodge then proceed for an evening game drive.

Day 8: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Departing in the morning, you will drive west while enjoying game viewing through the western corridor of the Serengeti to the central region of Seronera.

The Serengeti National Park is easily Tanzania’s most famous park, and it is also the largest, at 14,763 square kilometers of protected area. The park borders Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Park.

It is for the Great Migration for which Serengeti is most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June.

So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back. The wildebeest travel through a variety of parks, reserves, and protected areas and through a variety of habitat.

Day 9: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

We view game as we drive southeast up into the magnificent Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy a full afternoon crater tour followed by dinner and overnight stay at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge on the crater rim or similar facility.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s biggest whole volcanic caldera at 8,300 sq km and is arguably the most stunning arena. It is frequently described as one of the wonders of the world, not only because of its geological magnificence, but also because it serves as an extraordinary natural sanctuary for some of the Africa’s largest populations of large mammals. Ngorongoro and other freestanding mountains are volcanic in origin, formed during the fracturing process that created the Rift valley 15 to 20 million years ago. When it peaked in size 3 million years ago it was a similar height to Mt. Kilimanjaro today.

Day 10: Ngorongoro – Zanzibar, Tanzania

We pick you up from the lodge and drive to Kilimanjaro airport to catch your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival you will be transferred to Ocean Paradise Beach Hotel or similar for overnight stay.

    Day 11-13: Zanzibar, Tanzania

Your days are spent on your own at the beach hotel sun bathing and relaxing. Visits to Stone Town and spice tours can be arranged.
